Die Geschichte

WIE DAS
FORMAT TAK ENTSTAND.

TAK — Tom’s lossless Audio Kompressor — was released in 2007 by German developer Thomas Becker as a lossless audio codec optimized for speed. Becker’s design beats FLAC’s compression ratio by 3-5% on most material while decoding at roughly the same rate. Encoding is substantially slower than FLAC at maximum compression, but for purely archival use cases where you encode once and decode many times, TAK offers a small but measurable size win.

The format is closed-source (reference decoder is Windows-only freeware) which kept TAK niche. Audiophiles who favor every byte saved use it; everyone else uses FLAC. A .tak file is proprietary but the encoder is free for non-commercial use.

WISSENSWERTES UND
INTERESSANTE FAKTEN.

01

TAK compresses 3-5% better than FLAC on typical CD material — small win but material over huge libraries.

02

The name stands for "Tom's lossless Audio Kompressor" — Thomas Becker's initials and intent.

03

TAK's reference encoder is Windows-only closed-source freeware — a rare niche in the audiophile-codec world.

04

foobar2000 added TAK support natively — a Windows audio-player move that cemented its audiophile niche.

05

No major hardware player supports TAK — it is essentially a PC-only format.

TAK (TAK verlustfrei Audio) is an audio Dateiformat used to store sound recordings — music, voice, podcasts, sound effects. The Format defines how the audio samples are komprimiert (or stored raw), what Bitrates are unterstützt, und how metadata wie title, artist, album, und cover art is embedded. It is part des audio Dateien family.

VLC, foobar2000, und the default media players auf Windows und macOS handle TAK natively. On mobile, iOS Music und Android media apps vary in their support — popular Formate work everywhere; niche ones may need a dedicated app. If playback fails auf einem device, umwandelnd to MP3 oder AAC Normalerweise solves it.

Upload the TAK to KaijuConverter und pick MP3, WAV, FLAC, AAC, OGG, oder any other target. Our FFmpeg pipeline decodes the audio und re-encodes zum target Format at sensible default Bitrates (VBR ~190 kbps für music, 96 kbps für speech). Metadata und cover art travel mit the audio where both Formate support them.

TAK can be verlustbehaftet oder verlustfrei depending auf dem specific variant. verlustbehaftet variants (smaller files) discard some audio detail während Komprimierung in ways tuned to be inaudible; verlustfrei variants preserve every sample exactly aber produce larger files. für distribution, verlustbehaftet at hoch Bitrate is Standard; für archival, verlustfrei wins.
