Quality & Compatibility
JPEG uses DCT-based lossy compression with no alpha channel support, so any transparent background in a DOCX drawing object or watermark is composited onto a solid fill (typically white) before encoding. Text rendered at 96 DPI — screen resolution — looks acceptable on screen but will appear soft when printed; 150 to 300 DPI rendering produces sharper glyphs at the cost of a larger file.
